Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I)

It is located in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, which mainly falls into intertidal mudflats and other coastal wetlands. It has the world’s largest intertidal beach and is the key hub on the migration route of East Asia-Australia migratory birds with the largest number of endangered species and the highest degree of threat. It is also a resting place, molting ground and wintering ground for millions of migratory birds in the world.

In the area, it provides 23 internationally important birds with a co-habitat, and supports the survival of 17 endangered species in IUCN Red List, including 1 critically endangered species, 5 endangered species and 5 vulnerable species.

Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China can be divided into Jiangsu Yancheng Wetland National Nature Reserve, Rare Birds, Jiangsu Dafeng Elk National Natural Reserve Zone, Jiangsu Yancheng Tiaozini Municipal Wetland Park, Jiangsu Dongtai Tiaozini Wetland Protection Community and Jiangsu Dongtai High Mud Muddy Beach Wetland Protection Community.

On Jul. 5, 2019, Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I) was enrolled into the World Heritage List.
