City Wall of Nanjing

The construction of the City Wall of Nanjing started in 1366 and lasted 27 years. It required the labor of 280,000 workers and 350 million bricks to build the four-wall layout of Palace City, Imperial City, Inner City and Outer City. Today, 25.1km of the city wall is well preserved, which is the longest, largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in the world. After centuries of vicissitudes, the three walls of Palace City, Imperial City and Outer City have been ruined, only the tall Inner City wall still stands. As you walk around the Zhonghuamen Citadel, Stone City, Shence Gate, and Taicheng, touch the stone bricks that have survived the vicissitudes, listen to the past of Nanjing, you will feel the profound culture of Ming Dynasty within the city walls.
