The Canal’s Cultural History Nourishes the New Life of Cultural Heritage, Jiangsu Wins Another International Award!

The Grand Canal is an important medium and platform for the exchange and blending of culture. Recently, during the Extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee Side-Event of "The Next 50 Years: World Heritage Education Towards the Future", the 2023 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC) were officially announced. Five cases, prepared and submitted by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, stood out from nearly one hundred cases around the world and won the Star of Outstanding and Star of Discovery awards respectively.

From the immersive experiences of "Ming Dynasty Water Infrastructure Officer-Canal Mystery” secret room game in the China Grand Canal Museum in Yangzhou, and the "Humble Administrator's Garden - Suzhou Museum", to the Digital Cloud Platform of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park, the protected heritage of City Wall of Nanjing, and the educational case of Zijin Grass International Peace School, Jiangsu's cultural tourism has been gradually building up its leading image and the brand with feature of "exploring new approaches in developing the modern civilization of the Chinese nation".

The "Zijin Grass International Peace School" project creatively utilizes the Nanjing Massacre site, integrates history education with peace education, and sows "seeds of peace" to the world. "Every Brick Counts - Conservation and Display of City Wall of Nanjing" project focuses on the preservation of cultural relics, so that the protection of the city wall’s bricks can be passed on among the public, and the charm of the city wall heritage can be seen by people around the world. The "Digital Cloud Platform of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park" relies on digital technology to empower the cultural tourism industry and help tell the story of the Canal to the world.
