Chong’an Temple scenic spot is located in the core of Wuxi’s old city, surrounded by prosperous commerce.  Since ancient times, it has been the center of Wuxi’s culture, commerce and entertainment. The scenic spot consists of the former first Chinese garden-Gong Garden and Chong’an Temple Pedestrian Street.

The scenic spot is named after Chong’an Temple, which has a history of more than 1600 years. Since ancient times, Chong’an Temple has been the political, commercial and cultural center of Wuxi. Originally, it was a holy place for pure Buddhism. Later, it became a famous temple, developed into a prosperous commercial area, and became a synonym for downtown Wuxi. The adjacent Dongxu Palace has a history of more than 500 years, and the wing of its Sanqing Palace is the former residence of A Bing, the author of the world-famous song Moonlight on the Second Spring.

Gong Garden, reputed as the first garden in China, was the first one in China to be open to the public free of charge. It has 24 scenic spots such as Fangtang Academy, Chishangcao Hall, Xiuyibaishi, Caotanghuajiu, Songyayicui, Baishuishiquan, Lanyitingqin, Yingcongniaoyu, etc.

With its unique style and charm, Chong’an Temple has become one of the four characteristic blocks in the south of the Yangtze River, along with the Chenghuang Temple in Shanghai, Confucius Temple in Nanjing and Xuanmiao Temple in Suzhou. It is a national 4A scenic spot.
