Traditional wood construction technology is one of the ancient Chinese traditional crafts. The traditional architecture of the Han nationality is mainly based on wooden structure, with the main building materials of the earth, wood, brick, tile and stone. a professional division of labor includes timberwork constructing(the most important), tiling, brick laying, stone laying, materials producing, painting, framing and wallpaper sticking.
This kind of technology has been inherited between master and disciples from generation to generation as “words and deeds”. In 2009, Chinese traditional wood structure construction technique was selected candidate programmes of the oral and intangible heritage of humans at UNESCO. The representative technique of Jiangsu is Suzhou Xiangshan Group.
