Xuzhou Bangzi

Xuzhou Bangzi, one of the traditional local operas in Jiangsu Province, was named by the people as “Daxi” in Xuzhou, which is famous for the rhythm command of Guban and Bangzi. It has been popular in the Xuzhou of northern Jiangsu for three or four hundred years.

On June 7, 2008, Xuzhou Xunzi was approved by the State Council to be admitted into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage.

Xuzhou Bangzi plays are best at descrbing major historical events, reflecting the political and military struggles, and showing the achievements of heroes through dramatic dramas and tragedies. There are about 600 traditional plays, and more than 200 new historical dramas and modern plays. With abundant themes, the content reflected all aspects of society.

Filled with characteristics of appreciation and aesthetics, Xuzhou Bangzi is rich in connotation and has common taste and long history. With high value of cultural heritage and research, it is a unique one in the treasure house of opera art.
