Gaomin temple is a national key protected temple. It is one of the eight famous temples in Yangzhou. Gaomin temple in Yangzhou, Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, Tianning Temple in Changzhou and Tiantong temple in Ningbo are the four famous Buddhist temples in China. Gaomin temple not only enjoys a good reputation in the country, but also affects countries in Southeast Asia. In 1983, the National Religious Affairs Administration listed Gaomin temple as one of the national key temples.

According to legend, the Gaomin Temple was founded in the Sui Dynasty, and it was renamed many times later,  then it was rebuilt as a palace in the early Qing Dynasty. At present, the gate of the temple is embedded with the “Chijian GaoMin Temple” written by Kangxi Emperor. The existing buildings include the old Zen hall, the chanting hall, the Sutra collection building, the Buddha Hall, the West building, etc.

A new Zen hall was built in 1990, with a height of 18 meters and a cylindrical structure, with a building area of 365 square meters, integrating ancient and modern architectural features. Chen Hongchen from Hong Kong donated 500,000 yuan to the construction.

Completed in June 1996, the Hall of Ceremony is 40 meters long, 33 meters wide, 30 meters high, and covers an area of 1,320 square meters. There are still many buildings planned for construction. The former famous temple landscape will continue to be restored, and Gaomin temple will become an important place for religious activities and tourist attractions in Yangzhou.
